SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Jacto understands the company is part of a larger organism and when we work for society to prosper, we prosper too. Therefore, it seeks to contribute to communities where it is based through actions in two priority areas: Education and Family.
Jacto’s social contribution to education is made by the Shunji Nishimura Foundation of Technology, created on November 16, 1979, by the company’s founder. At the age of 70, after running one of the largest agricultural machine factories in the world and when everybody thought he had done all he could, Nishumura embarked on a new mission: to thank the country that welcomed him when he was young. “I owe everything I have to Brazil. I would have nothing if I were in another country. Brazil is generous and it has always given me more than my work deserved. That is why I need to give back a little of the much I was given by this country”, he always said.
He opened two schools and consolidated a legacy which currently has an elementary and junior high school, a Senai (National Service of Industrial Learning) technical school and Fatec (Technological College) with courses focused on agribusiness.
Jacto also contributes socially by promoting the personal and professional development of its employees, the well-being of their families and activities to strengthen community initiatives.
Agricultural college
The first Shunji Nishimura Foundation of Technology project was the creation of Pompeia Agricultural Technical School, opened in 1982. Jacto’s founder conceived a school where children of farmers could learn theory in classrooms and test cultivation, animal husbandry practices and the use of agricultural machines and equipment in the fields. The aim was to increase the income and life of families in farms.
At that time, the company already offered fast agricultural mechanization courses at the factory. The school widened the reach and narrowed the gap between agronomists and the large number of rural workers with little or no education.
The Agricultural School was built in a 35-hectare farm and students attended it in a boarding system until 2007, when the system was discontinued. From 1982 to 2007, 797 agricultural technicians studied at the school.
In 2008, the Agricultural School ceased to offer the four high-school years and became a three-semester vocational school with emphasis on agricultural mechanization. Also, two new technical courses, Mechanics and Electrotechnology, were created. The Agricultural school closed in 2009.
ELEMENTARY AND JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
After opening the Agricultural Technical School for farmers’ young children in 1982, Jacto’s founder also opened the Shunji Nishimura School, in 1988 for elementary and secondary students.
Nishimura believed a person’s education must begin in early childhood and be provided in a motivating and participative environment with responsibility and discipline. The school proposal was to develop students’ potentialities by offering art, sport and robotic complementary activities.
The Shunji Nishimura Foundation of Technology built the school premises and pays its maintenance costs.
SHUNJI NISHIMURA SENAI SCHOOL
The Shunji Nishimura Foundation of Technology also offers secondary and technological education in partnership with Senai (National Service of Industrial Learning). The Shunji Nishimura Senai School opened on August 3, 2009 and offered Mechanics and Electrotechnology courses at the Agricultural School.
The Foundation donated the 1,478-square meter area and it is responsible for its maintenance costs, including cleaning, security, furniture, sports gym and support staff.
The Senai School was an evolution from Chieko Nishimura Vocational School created in 2005 to offer free mechanical machining training courses in the Young Apprentice program to train qualified workforce for the company.
Currently, the school offers Mechanics and Electrotechnology technical courses as well as learning, qualification, requalification, improvement or specialization courses in automation, electro-electronics, management, logistics, metalworking, metallurgy, safety and information technology.
The school also offers a high-school course, an original educational experience for Senai as it does not offer regular high-school courses. Due to its pioneer spirit and innovative methodology, the course has attracted visits from educators from all over the country, mainly from the S-System education network, such as Sesi and Senai.
Initial and continuing training courses can also be tailor-made to meet the specific demands of companies in the region.
TECHNOLOGICAL COLLEGE
In 2010, Fatec (Technological College), a public institution of higher education maintained by São Paulo State Government was installed in the Agricultural School facilities. Fatec offered the first Precision Agriculture Mechanization course in the country. In 2017, Fatec began the course Big Data in Agribusiness, also the first of its kind in Brazil and Latin America. The Mechanization course offers 80 vacancies per semester and Big Data offers 40 vacancies.
Under an agreement signed by the Shunji Nishimura Foundation of Technology and the Fatec administrator, Centro Paula Souza, the Foundation answers for every facility maintenance cost and provides equipment and machines required in the course. To do so, the Foundation has formed a partnership with the main brands in the country, among them its competitors, to supply equipment and agricultural machines. On April 21, 2012 Fatec Pompeia was renamed after Jacto’s founder, Shunji Nishimura, according to decree issued by São Paulo State government. A tribute to whom cared so much about agriculture and education.
SOIL testing LABORATORY
The Shunji Nishimura Foundation of Technology also has a soil and plant testing laboratory created in 1985 to provide farmers testing services to determine soil fertility and analyse plant tissues.
Currently, the lab provides testing services for farmers from all over the country, mainly from São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul states. It is also used for practical classes, internships, testing experiments of students and teachers of the Mechanization and Precision Agriculture course of Fatec Shunji Nishimura.
support to communities and volunteer work
Jacto also contributes socially to the community by supporting initiatives to promote quality of life.
Throughout its existence, Jacto has made donations to Pompeia Santa Casa Hospital and social entities that develop art, recreation, sport and health activities.
Jacto also works to promote community initiatives through its Volunteer program which was created in 2008 within the company to support social initiatives of employees and their families for the community. The Volunteer program has expanded its scope and performance beyond the company. Anyone who wishes to work for the benefit of the community takes the idea to the program and receives advice and support to put the idea into practice.
PERSONAL GROWTH OF EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES
Jacto's social activities also take place inside the company, in initiatives to support the personal and family growth of employees, going far beyond what is determined by labor legislation.
The company provides financial support so that employees can attend specialization, undergraduate and graduate courses and hence boost their careers. In 2016, 157 employees received support for undergraduate courses, 46 for specialization courses and three for graduate courses.
Internally, the Professional Improvement Course is developed for the mechanical area. For the management area, Jacto has offered an MBA (Master Business Administration) program, specialization courses focused on specific managerial skills, as well as sales, marketing and production management training since 2002.
Employees and their families can also enjoy Jacto Club, a leisure and recreation area with more than seven thousand square meters, with cafeteria, sports courts, gym, and facilities for parties and social gatherings. The club is maintained by the company, including support staff such as nutritionists, instructors, cleaning and security employees.
The company also develops courses regarding relationship, child rearing, financial education, drug prevention, habit formation and leadership attitude enhancement for employees and their families. In 2016, the program offered 1,374 places in 18 courses.
